Six Reign FC players scored, including two with braces, as the club recorded an 8-0 win over Seattle Pacific University in a preseason match on Saturday at the Moda Health Pitch at Memorial Stadium.
With the win, Seattle finished the preseason at 2-0, after beating the University of Washington 5-0 on Thursday, April 3.
Dani Foxhoven and Lyndsey Patterson tallied two goals each, with Naho, Bev Goebel, Jen LaPonte and Kate Deines scoring one goal apiece as Reign FC shut out the Falcons.
Seattle opened the scoring during the 18th minute as defender Elli Reed sent the ball toward the net allowing Foxhoven to touch it into goal for a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, Goebel sent a cross from the left to center goal where forward Naho took a low shot straight to the back of the net to double Reign FC’s lead. Naho and Goebel, familiar faces to each other as teammates from INAC Kobe Leonessa, proved to be dominant for Seattle as each scored a goal in the win, along with five assists by Naho.
Foxhoven picked up her second goal in the 36th minute, finishing a cross-field pass from Naho on the right. The first half came to a close with midfielder Keelin Winters fouled and on the ground inside the box during the 43rd minute. Goebel took the penalty kick for Seattle, slotting a straight shot past Seattle Pacific University goalkeeper Alexa Hughes.
Entering the match as a substitute, Jen LaPonte scored the first goal of the second half, with an assist from Naho, during the 71st minute. Midfielder Deines quickly added to the scoreboard during the 74th minute, while Patterson put the final numbers on the scoreboard with goals in the 83rd and 87th minutes, again with assists by Naho.
Goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer registered a clean sheet, rarely coming under pressure as Seattle dominated possession against the Falcons.
“It was nice to be out at Memorial in front of our fans,” Reign FC head coach and GM Laura Harvey said. “It was a good way to end the preseason.”
