South Africa (Banyana Banyana) Women’a National football team will play Namibia in a international friendly match as part of their preparations for the African Women’s Championship.
The international friendly match is scheduled for Saturday 5 July at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
Banyana Banyana head coach Vera Pauw said on the South Africa official website: “The plan was to go on a West Africa tour and play stronger opponents. It’s unfortunate that we won’t be going as we could not get confirmation from the teams and we couldn’t wait longer as we have to prepare our team. I would like to thank SAFA and our sponsor Sasol for all their hard work in ensuring that we continue with our planned program by securing the match against Namibia. This match will help us build on the good job that the girls have been doing, and also give us time to work on some aspects that need attention. We need to play as many games as we can before the tournament”.
South Africa successfully qualified for the 2014 edition of the African Women’s Championships after a 13–0 win over Comoros.
