Spain to play China PR in two international friendly matches in September

Spain will play China PR in two international friendly matches in September and will see Jorge Vilda make his debut as the new Spanish women’s national team head coach.

Jorge Vilda took over the role as Spanish WNT manager in July and his first test as the new boss will be against China PR. Vilda’s predecessor Ignacio Quereda held the post for 27 years before stepping down after the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015.

Jorge has great experience and has been successful with the Spanish women’s youth teams. As manager of the Spanish Women’s Under-17s, he twice UEFA European Women’s U-17 Championship (2010, 2011), he also achieved bronze at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Trinidad and Tobago 2010 and were runners-up at the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup Costa Rica 2014.

As Spanish Women’s U-19 head coach, Vilda and his squad made it to the final of the 2015 UEFA European Women’s U-19 Championship but were defeated by Sweden.

The matches will be played on 19 and 21 September in China.

Both China and Spain competed in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015, Spain failed to progress from the group stage whilst China advanced to the quarter-finals where they were knocked out by USA.
