Steph Catley makes history by becoming the first female player to appear on the front cover of video game series FIFA

Australia Westfield Matildas’ defender Steph Catley has made history by becoming the first female footballer to appear on the front cover of the popular video game series FIFA.

Steph Catley will be on the Australian cover of FIFA 16 alongside FC Barcelona player Lionel Messi.

In May, EA Sports announced that FIFA 16 will be introducing the option to play as Women’s National Teams for the first time in the FIFA franchise. Choose from 12 teams and compete* in Match Day, an Offline Tournament, and Online Friendly Matches. The available women’s teams are: Germany, USA, France, Sweden, England, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Spain, China, Italy and Mexico.

Catley beat international team-mates Kyah Simon and Katrina Gorry to feature on the front cover of FIFA 16.

Australia Westfield Matildas recently returned from Canada where they competed in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 in which they reached the quarter-final stage.
