Sweden WNT reported to boycott Awards Gala; may miss friendly against France
It is reported on the Swedish website fotbollskanalen that players of the Sweden Women’s National Team will boycott the Football Awards Gala on Monday 20 November 2017 and may not play in the upcoming friendly match against France.
On the fotbollskanalen website, it is reported that Sweden were close to going on strike during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 Championship but chose instead to believe in the Swedish Football Federations good will to deliver on negotiations.
The players have now had enough and their first step is to boycott the SvFF Award’s Gala and the next step would be to strike in the international friendly match against France.
The women’s national team players of Sweden have been trying to negotiate a deal for almost a year. They are looking for what they think is reasonable and would like to feel respected in their work.
The Sweden WNT would like to negotiate a deal that can benefit future players with better conditions.
There have been a number of women’s national team players who have been fighting for better conditions at work. USA and Denmark negotiated a better deal and Norway entered into a more equal agreement across their men’s and women’s sides.
Other nations’ football federations are yet to make significant changes for their women’s teams including Brazil, who lost high profile players such as Cristiane because of the conflict.
