Its that time of the year again for Womens Football.. Another year for Team South Africa “Banyana Banyana” to participate in the Cyprus Cup for the 3rd time..
Banyana Banyana got their first invite to the Cyprus Cup in 2010.. Facing top teams like England, Switzerland and The Netherlands and believe me it was tough and was no joke.. Those teams were far better than us at the time, only because lack of experience as a team.. Two years later, 2012 we received another invitation to come back to play in Cyprus! Everyone was excited, including the coaches as it was part of our preperations for the Olympic Games in London. There were a lot of team changes and a little more experience to help us do better the second time around.. It was a good tournament for the team.. Every player did exceptionally well.. Although we didn’t manage to make it through the group stages, we certainly made a name for ourselves and did our country proud as we walked away with a great win over Northern Ireland, a draw against a top team like New Zealand and a narrow loss against South Korea!!
Today we are yet again one of the teams that will be participating in this special event.. This time around the team is looking younger, stronger, and more enthusiastic about the up coming tournament.. There are players that will participate in this event for the very first time and a few of us that have experienced it all before.. Every player is looking forward to the games.. We are all ready and fit to play. In our group will be Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland once again and Korea Republic. It will be tough as it always is but I am absolutely honored to be here once again.. I have been with the team for quite some time and I love being part of the National Team setup.. The more I play, the more I gain, and the more I gain the better I become and the better I become the more I am able to help others in the game… The Cyprus Cup is like a mini World Cup to me… I love to learn and play against players and teams that are highly experienced!! Every game I play in this tournament I try learn something new.. It is definitely one of my favourite tournaments besides the BIG ones such as the WORLD CUP and OLYMPIC games.. I enjoy being here and hopefully we will get invited to this amazing event again..
Good Luck to all the teams and players in this Tournament.. Remember: TALK WITH YOUR FEET, PLAY WITH YOUR HEART.
Thanks to Womens Soccer United for giving me the opportunity to talk about what I love most.. FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!
