Many football fans are quick to forget that women play football as well as men. The women’s game has been growing in popularity over the last few years, with more games being broadcast live, with many of the big tournaments now on television. There has even been increased presence with sports betting brands and sports news sites like following more games; as they all see a growing interest for the women’s game from their audiences. This has prompted more people to take an interest in the women’s game, and those who play it. There are some great female footballers around, so let’s take a look at some of the best right now.

Lucy Bronze

Lucy Bronze, 26, is one of the best English players around, and has also made her mark on the world stage too. She helped former club Manchester City in winning the Women’s FA Cup last season after heading home the opener and has also been a key part of the England set up too. The right-back then traded Manchester for European champions Lyon, as she looked to embrace a new challenge and further develop as a player.

Carli Lloyd

Carli Lloyd is one of the biggest names in female football and has consistently delivered for a number of years. Back in 2015 she was named the FIFA Player of the year, and not only has she proven herself domestically, she’s done it on the world stage too by scoring 100 goals in 252 games for the USA. The 35-year-old has become a great inspiration to others and still to this day is a great player in her own right, even though she’s in the twilight of her career.

Alex Morgan

Alex Morgan, like Carli Lloyd, is another American who has had a major impact on the women’s game. The 28-year-old has become somewhat of a pin up in women’s football, but the striker is a great player in her own right too. She has had a great goal scoring record wherever she has played, while also being impressive for the USA too with 85 goals in 140 games. She’s currently playing for the Orlando Pirates, but enjoyed a loan spell with Lyon, the European champions, just last season.

Marta Vieira Da Silva

Marta Viera Da Silva, or Marta as she is more often known, is probably the Brazilian to play the women’s game, and she has been a great ambassador for both the sport and her country too. The 32-year-old Orlando Pirate possesses a stunning goal scoring record that any player on the planet would be proud of and she also holds the record for the most goals ever scored at a FIFA Women’s World Cup too. Many believe her to be the best player of all time, especially after being names player of the year 5 years running, with many drawing likenesses to fellow Brazilian Pele.

Dzsenifer Marozsan

Dzenifer Marozsan, 26, is the captain of Germany’s women’s football team and currently plays for European champions Lyon. She’s been with the club since 2016 and so far, the midfielder has hit 10 goals in 30 games for the French side. She led Germany to Olympic gold in Rio in 2016 and she is well known for her eccentric spirit and never-ending energy. She’s fast become a huge inspiration to both her peers, and women in general wishing to take up the game, as she leads by example on the field with her warrior like style.
