The Sky is the Limit for NUWFC’s ‘New Recruit’

During the last few months Newcastle United Women’s Football Club has signed a number of new players to add to their squad, one of those to sign this week is Siobhan Davies.

Siobhan a Liverpudlian, is one of those new signings, who by day is a Corporal in the RAF and who is currently based at RAF Boulmer in the North East of England.   With special permission granted by the RAF FA Siobhan can also play for NUWFC.  But although based in the North East  she still has to travel in excess of 200 miles a week to attend NUWFC training sessions and to meet up with the squad on match days.

Siobhan has already demonstrated that she was totally committed to playing for the Toon before she even takes to the pitch in a league game for them.  So once she starts travelling with the team the miles will very quickly add up and that 200 will definitely double and sometimes triple as she travels to place like Leicester, Wolverhampton and Lincoln.

Siobhan is no stranger to the North East having previous studied at Northumbria University and has also played for Whitley Bay.

Siobhan started playing football at a young age and with a lot of encouragement from her parents and teachers at her Primary School, where like most women footballers she  started her footballing career playing in the boys team. During that time Siobhan also attended Everton Soccer Camps which then led her onto Club, County and Regional football Representation in Merseyside and the North West.

Since joining the military Siobhan has represented the RAF and Combined Services, and has played in some high profile fixtures against teams such as Wolves, Stoke and Super League Teams, Lincoln City Ladies FC and Liverpool FC.

Siobhan’s day job is a Physical Training Instructor (PTI) with the RAF, so not only is she a very talented footballer but as you would expect her fitness is never in question.

Mid September will see Siobhan attending a military boot camp to Hawaii at the start of the season, which will involve tough training and opposition alike.

Siobhan said ‘I am really pleased to be part of the NUWFC setup and hope to feature in the starting line up as much as possible during the season’

NUWFC Chairman Phil Eadon said, “We are delighted to welcome Siobhan into NUWFC.  Her experience and background playing football for the RAF and Combined Services will be a big benefit to the team as we go in search for honours in the FA Women’s Premier League this season and beyond.   I know that she will enjoy her time at NUWFC and that she will be a great role model for other ladies and girls to show that they can pursue a career in the armed forces and still play football at a very high standard.”

Siobhan has had great support in her footballing career to date and this has continued during her time as a member of the RAF, Siobhan is sponsored by the RAF Sports Lottery.  The RAF Sports Lottery was created in 1993 to provide additional funds to meet requests for help in financing sporting activity and endeavour in the RAF. There are currently over 27,000 members holding in excess of 65,000 tickets. This generates an annual income of £2.5 million. After running costs and prize money around £1 million is available to sports associations, stations and individual sportsmen and women.
