Toland signs for Manchester City.
Sion Swifts midfielder Tyler Toland has left the club to sign for Manchester City.
The 18-year-old has signed her first professional contract with Nick Cushing’s side after already turning heads on the international stage for the Republic of Ireland.
Toland leaves Swifts currently sitting third in the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership table after overcoming Cliftonville 5-2 on Wednesday evening.
In 2017 Toland became the youngest ever women to pull on a Republic of Ireland jersey as she made her debut against Northern Ireland in a World Cup qualifier at Mourneview Park.
“I’m delighted to sign,” Toland said speaking to the Manchester City official website.
“I’m very excited. Since I was four or five my dream was to become a professional footballer and now it’s a reality.”
Toland, who has been given the number 12 shirt at her new club, said: “I’ve spoken to Megan Campbell for a couple of months, she was buzzing when she found out.
“I’ve spoken to the manager and I’ve met all the girls. They’ve all been fantastic in helping me to settle in.”
I’m going to work hard… and hopefully help the team as much as I can,” she revealed.
“If the game time comes then it comes… hopefully (we can) lift a trophy at the end of the season.”
City will begin their WSL campaign on 7 September with a derby against newly-promoted Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.
