Two teams will be promoted into FA WSL 1, for the 2016 season
As the English FA WSL expands, the second division will have double the chance of promotion in 2015.
For the first time in the league’s history two teams will be promoted into the FA Women’s Super League 1 from the FA WSL 2, for the 2016 season. Only one team will be relegated from WSL 1 to WSL 2, this means that in 2016 there will nine teams competing in the top division.
This increase is part of a two year plan that will lead to the expansion of the FA WSL 1 from eight to ten teams.
The FA WSL 2 will continue to have ten teams participating as one team from the English FA Women’s Premier League will be promoted for both the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
This season Sunderland Ladies were crowned WSL 2 Champions and earned promotion into WSL 1. Everton became the first team to be relegated into the second tier.
