Japan U-17 Women's World Cup 2014

Japan scored 10 goals against Paraguay to book their place in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup quarter-finals.

Mexico and Nigeria also secured a place in the next round after both winning their second group matches. The quarter-final  line-up so far is Ghana, Italy, Venezuela, Japan, Mexico and Nigeria

Group C: Paraguay 0-10 Japan

Japan became the first team from Group C to book a place in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2014 quarter-finals after thrashing Paraguay 10-0.

Paraguay created an early chance in front of goal but Jessica Martinez sent her shot wide, after this Japan took control of the match and Paraguay were unable to get back into the game.

Seven Japanese players scored which included a Hina Sugita hat-trick!.

A win for Paraguay against Spain could still see them progress to the next round.

Result: Paraguay 0-10 Japan

Group C: New Zealand 0-3 Spain

A positive performance by Spain earned them a comfortable 3-0 win over New Zealand.

Sandra Hendandez opened the scoring early in the 3rd minute of the game after calmly finishing a Laura Dominguez cross.

Pilar Garrote made it 2-0 with a powerful long range strike that gave goalkeeper Emma Fulbrook no chance of saving. Nahikari Garcia scored Spain’s third and final goal after a great little individual run and finish.

New Zealand had an opportunity to get a goal in the final minutes after being awarded a penalty, but Isabella Coombes’ shot hit the post.

Result: New Zealand 0-3 Spain

Group D: Mexico 4-0 China PR

Mexico continue their perfect start to their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup campaign earning their second successive victory with a 4-0 win over China PR.

The deadlock was broken on the half hour mark after Rebeca Bernal converted a penalty. Three minutes before half-time Janae Gonzalez doubled the Mexican’s lead.

Mexico continued to dominate in the second half with Gabriela Martinez increasing the lead to 3-0 in the 66th minute before Belen Cruz made it 4-0 just before full-time.

Result: Mexico 4-0 China PR
Goals: Rebeca Bernal 30′ (P), Janae Gonzalez 42′, Gabriela Martinez 66′, Belen Cruz 87′
Attendance: 4,629

Group D: Colombia 1-2 Nigeria

Colombia took the lead in the third minute of the match as Angie Rodriguez headed home.

Nigeria responded well and brought the game back level in the 26th minute as Joy Bokiri curled in a free-kick from the edge of the penalty area.

Uchenna Kanu scored just before the hour mark to give Nigeria the lead and scoring her second game of the tournament.

The comeback by Nigeria has booked their place into the quarter-finals whilst Colombia will be looking to earn their first points of the tournament when they play China PR in their final group match.

Result: Colombia 1-2 Nigeria
