Valencia CF Feminine earn important Liga Iberdrola victory against rival, Athletic Club

Valencia CF Feminine held onto fifth spot in the Spanish Liga Iberdrola after defeating direct rival, Athletic Club to close the gap.

Mari Paz Vilas broke the deadlock early in the 6th minute before María Díaz equalised for the visiting club just 9 minutes later.

Just before half-time, Mari Paz Vilas netted a brace to put Valencia CF back in front of Athletic CLub. It was Sandra Hernández who extended the home side’s lead to 3-1 in the 56th minute.

Weather conditions were not ideal with rainfall throughout the match, Valencia CF Feminine worked well to earn three points to bring their total in the league up to 31, just two points behind fourth place UDG Tenerife!

Debora Garcia provided the assist from the right wing for Mari Paz’s opening goal in the 6th minute. Athletic Club were quick to respond to falling behind in the opening minutes of the match, as María Díaz found the equaliser on the quarter-hour mark.

The fantastic teamwork between Debora Garcia and Mari Paz led to Valencia CF’s second goal to end the first half 2-1.

Jesús Oliva’s Valencia CF team had greater control in the second half, displaying defensive strength and improved offensive success which led to a third goal in the 56th minute. A quality counter-attack led by Mari Paz, who fed the ball to Gio Carreras who passed to Sandra Hernández who found the net.

This was the third consecutive victory for Valencia CF.
