The Western New York Flash (8-5-3) entered Saturday night’s match looking to put some distance between themselves and the fourth-place Chicago Red Stars as the playoffs draw closer. To do so, they would need to defeat the Houston Dash (3-8-4) at Rochester Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, NY. Despite fighting back from two one-goal deficits, the Flash could not muster a win at home, playing to a 2-2 draw in front of 6,449 fans.

The Chicago Red Stars recorded a 3-1 away win over Sky Blue FC on Saturday evening, bagging a crucial three points that see Head Coach Rory Dames’ squad move six points clear of their New Jersey-based foes in the playoff race and to within one point of their next opponent, second-place Portland Thorns FC. The convincing victory came courtesy of an overall strong team performance as well as impressive attacking displays by Vanessa DiBernardo and goal-scorers Stephanie McCaffrey, Christen Press and Sofia Huerta. Samantha Kerr had the consolation goal for the home side in stoppage time.
