Republic of Ireland WNT receive international caps at special ceremony

The Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team were presented with their caps from the 14/15 and 15/16 seasons.

The WNT squad are currently in camp preparing for their final UEFA 2017 European Championships Qualifying game against Portugal at the Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday.

Sue Ronan’s side need to win against Portugal in order to secure third spot in the group which will go towards a stronger seeding for FIFA 2019 Women’s World Cup qualification.

The players were presented with their cap by FAI Women’s Football Committee for each season they’ve made an appearance for the Irish national side with 18 players in the squad receiving a cap.

Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team Head Coach Sue Ronan said: “It’s an important ceremony for the squad to have as it celebrates the achievements of the players.

“It is a huge honour to play for your country at any level so it is important we acknowledge the players’ achievements for their outstanding contribution to the national side over the past two seasons.

“It is also nice for the young players in the squad who haven’t made their international debuts yet to be part of the ceremony as it should serve as future inspiration to them.”
