There are always going to be arguments when a shortlist is whittled down to three, but I have to say Marta’s inclusion simply does not make any sense to me. This is not to sday she is not a fantastic player, and one of the game’s biggest names, it is only to say that in 2012, she was not among the three highest performing individuals.

Morgan still makes sense even without her and Wambach being in competitive leagues this year. Yes, the tour games have not all been top class encounters but in the two big games vs Germany she set up three goals. Sinclair, however, should be in there (although the lack of competitive games is also a questionmark too).

I get why Wambach is there, but I would say there is a case also for Carli Lloyd, Anja Mittag, Camille Abily and even possibly Yuki Ogimi.

Saying all of this…it’s an individual award and not something I get too worked up about, The real honours are won on a pitch…not by posted in votes.
