Our women’s football league reviews (below) feature a round up of just some of Women’s Soccer United’s global coverage – in case you missed it as it happened.

 

Germany flagGermany Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga – Close battle at top of the table.

This weekend, reigning Champions Vfl Wolfsburg took advantage of their game in hand over FC Bayern Munich, their 4-0 win against Jena so them return to the top of the league. In the weekend’s only other fixture, 1.FFC Frankfurt earned a 2-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen with Verónica Boquete netting the late winner.

Vfl Wolfsburg revealed Lara Dickenmann and Élise Bussaglia will join the club whilst Martina Müller announced her plans to finish her career at the end of the season.

Gina Lewandowski of FC Bayern München wrote another fantastic article about the exciting end to the German Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga, arguably one of the most competitive, exciting leagues in the world.

Japan flagJapan Nadeshiko League – INAC Kobe Leonessa remain unbeaten

The Japanese Nadeshiko League has made its return and @kensuzuki has been providing Women’s Soccer United great updates and statistics as we follow the league’s progression.
We have witnessed three rounds of action so far, with INAC Kobe earning a dream unbeaten start as their rivals NTV Beleza and current Champions Urawa Reds dropping points.
The attendance figures at the matches have been as impressive as ever with many attracting thousands of fans.
Probably the most impressive/shocking news from Japan so far came from the second division, @kensuzuki reported the double hat-trick recorded by Shiho Tomari (recently signed from Urawa Reds), in Nagano Parceiro’s 6-0 win over previously undefeated Nojima Stella!

Sweden flagSweden Damallsvenskan – Rosengard grab top spot

The new Swedish Damallsvenskan campaign got underway at the weekend with reigning champions Rosengard coming from behind to beat Orebro 4-1. The win puts them at the top of the table on goal difference. Hammarby, Kristianstad, Vittsjö, Göteborg FC and Eskilstuna United all kicked off their new season with a win.

USA flagUSA NWSL – Rapinoe kicks off campaign with a hat-trick

The third season of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has kicked off with Houston Dash and Washington Spirit getting the action underway in front of over 6,000 fans! Carli Lloyd netted the first goal of the 2015 and what a stunner it was! The Dash ended the game on top with a 2-0 win.
Seattle Reign has kicked off this campaign in the same impressive form they showcased in 2014. Their opening game saw them record a huge 5-1 win over WNY Flash.
Portland Thorns played host to Boston Breakers in which they achieved a dominant 4-1 in front of a stunning crowd of over 13,000!
Sky Blue FC also earned all three points, Nadia Nadim scored the only goal in the game against FC Kansas City.
Chicago Red Stars are yet to play their opening fixture.

Italy flagItaly Women’s Serie A – Verona hold on to lead at top

Verona managed to hold onto their lead at the top of the Italian Women’s Serie A following the weekend’s 8-1 win over Bari. M.Gabbiadini, M.Gelmetti and M.Carissimi all netted a brace for Verona, L.Sipos scored a single goal and L.Clelland got the consolation goal for Bari.
At just a point behind Verona in second place, Brescia kept the pressure on their rivals by also earning themselves a high-scoring win. They defeated Como 2000 7-1 away from home.

England flagEngland FAWSL – FA Women’s Cup semi-finalists decided

In England, the main focus at the weekend was on the FA Women’s Cup quarter-finals, which saw Man City, Chelsea, Notts County and Everton advance closer to Wembley! The semi-final draw took place on Monday and the fixtures are Chelsea v Man City and Everton v Notts County.

A great win for Brighton and Hove Albion over Portsmouth combined with Cardiff City dropping points to West Ham United meant that the Seagulls stole the top spot.

Scotland flagScotland Women’s Premier League – Hibernian hold top spot

Hibernian hold a narrow lead at the top of the SWPL with some of the teams below them having a game in hand.
The reigning Champions Glasgow City earned two wins from two at the weekend as they defeated Aberdeen 2-1 away from home.

Korea Republic flagKorea Republic WK-League – Not much separates competing teams

Daejeon Sportstoto are just one point clear at the top of the WK-League after four matches, they kept the margin after beating Hwacheon KSPO 2-0. Closely behind them, Red Angels earned a comfortable 4-0 win against Busan Sangmu.
